Originally a project of the Australian National University, this interactive centre began in the spare space of Ainslie Public School in Canberra. With only 15 exhibits and a team of volunteers, Questacon quickly grew under the guidance of Professor Mike Gore AM, who was inspired by the Exploratorium in San Francisco. The name ‘Questacon’ cleverly combines ‘quest’ and ‘con’, reflecting the mission to discover and study science.
